How Ruben Amorim can give Manchester United upper hand in transfer pursuit of PSG left-back Nuno Mendes

Manchester United are interested in signing Nuno Mendes, and Ruben Amorim may help them achieve that goal.

A new left-back is high on United's wishlist, with Mendes apparently joined by Wolves' Rayan Ait-Nouri, Chelsea's Ben Chilwell, and Benfica's promising prospect Alvaro Carreras.

According to Sky Sports' Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies and AC Milan's Theo Hernandez are also under consideration. However, the 22-year-old Mendes continues to be of'strong interest' to the Red Devils.

Amorim's presence might help United's chances of signing Mendes. Plettenberg adds that Amorim and Mendes work for the same agency, which might offer the Old Trafford club an advantage over other suitors for the Portugal international.

United aren't expecting to have a large budget in the forthcoming transfer window as Sir Jim Ratcliffe continues to free up funds, so a move for Mendes, who won't be cheap, may have to wait until summer. Marcus Rashford's likely exit would free up finances to assist Amorim upgrade a squad in need of a boost.
