Chelsea teenager Deivid Washington links up with Neymar as striker completes Santos loan move

Chelsea teenager Deivid Washington has joined Brazilian side Santos on a loan deal, linking up with superstar Neymar in the process. The 19-year-old forward, who Chelsea signed for a hefty €20 million (£17m/$22m) in August 2023, will spend the next two years on loan at Santos, with an option for the Brazilian club to purchase him permanently.

Washington's return to Santos comes after a brief and uneventful stint at Chelsea, where he made just three senior appearances. The loan deal, which runs until December 31, 2025, suggests that Chelsea are willing to reassess their investment in the young forward.

The fact that Santos have an option to buy Washington on a permanent basis indicates that Chelsea are open to cutting their losses on the player. However, it remains to be seen whether Santos can afford to exercise this option, should the loan move prove successful.

Washington, who began his career at Santos, could make his second debut for the club as early as Sunday, when they face Internacional de Limeira away from home. The loan move provides Washington with a fresh start and an opportunity to rediscover his form in familiar surroundings.
