Manchester United's struggle to sign Viktor Gyokeres: Lack of 'European Football' could be a major hurdle

Manchester United’s pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres in the upcoming summer transfer window could face a significant obstacle: the club's failure to secure European football for the 2025/26 season. United have been keen on acquiring the Swedish striker ever since Ruben Amorim made the move from Sporting CP to Old Trafford, but a lack of European competition next year might prevent the potential reunion.

Currently languishing in 14th place in the Premier League, Manchester United is struggling to find form, making it increasingly unlikely that they will qualify for any European tournament. While a spot in the Champions League seems out of reach, winning the Europa League remains their only route to securing continental football.

According to A Bola, if United fails to clinch the Europa League title, they may find it difficult to attract Gyokeres, who is eager to continue playing in the Champions League. As a result, United has reportedly started considering other options, including Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta, who has netted 15 goals and contributed three assists in all competitions this season.

With the summer transfer window approaching, it remains to be seen if Manchester United can overcome this hurdle or if the club will look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements. Meanwhile, Ruben Amorim's squad will focus on their next Premier League match against Arsenal, hoping to turn their season around.
