‎Trent Alexander-Arnold has stirred controversy among Liverpool fans by publicly saluting new Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso just days after completing his high-profile free transfer to the Spanish giants.

‎The England international, who signed with Real Madrid earlier this week, commented “El Jefe” — Spanish for “the boss” — on an official Real Madrid Instagram post celebrating both his and Alonso’s arrivals. The tribute was interpreted by many as a symbolic passing of allegiance and has intensified criticism from Liverpool supporters.
‎Adding to the tension, Alexander-Arnold updated his social media bio to reflect his new allegiance to Real Madrid, removing all references to Liverpool. Many Reds fans view the move as a disrespectful parting shot, particularly given that the full-back allowed his contract to run down and left the club without a significant transfer fee.
‎Real Madrid reportedly paid £10 million ($13 million) to expedite the deal, ensuring Alexander-Arnold is registered for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. He is expected to feature in the tournament, with Madrid set to face Al-Hilal in their opening match on June 18.
‎Despite winning the Premier League title in his final appearance and receiving a standing ovation from many at Anfield, Alexander-Arnold was also met with boos earlier in the season after announcing his decision to depart. His latest online actions may further complicate his legacy among Liverpool supporters.
‎Before joining up with his new club in the United States for the Club World Cup, Alexander-Arnold will fulfill international duties, having been selected by England manager Thomas Tuchel for the upcoming matches against Andorra and Senegal.
