‎Lamine Yamal Sets New La Liga Record with Penalty Goal in Barcelona vs Rayo Vallecano Draw

‎Lamine Yamal added another milestone to his growing list of achievements by setting a new La Liga record during Barcelona’s 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
‎The 18-year-old forward scored from the penalty spot in the 40th minute, giving Barcelona the lead just before halftime. The spot-kick came after Yamal went down inside the Rayo box under a challenge from defender Pep Chavarria. The referee awarded the penalty despite protests, with the Video Assistant Referee system unavailable due to a technical breakdown that had been communicated to both sides before kick-off.

‎Yamal’s successful conversion made him the youngest player in the 21st century to score a La Liga penalty goal, achieving the record at 18 years and 49 days old. The strike further cemented his reputation as one of the brightest young talents in Spanish football.
‎The Barcelona teenager already holds several league records, including being the youngest starter for the Catalan club this century, the youngest to provide an assist, the youngest to score a goal, and the first to net a brace before turning 17. He is also the youngest player with more than ten goal contributions and the first to win two La Liga titles before the age of 18.
‎Despite Yamal’s record-breaking moment, Barcelona could not secure all three points. Fran Perez equalized for Rayo Vallecano in the 67th minute, leaving Hansi Flick’s side to settle for a draw. The Catalan giants will resume their campaign after the international break on September 14, when they face Valencia in another league fixture.
