Marcus Rashford Loan at Barcelona Safe as Guillem Balague Dismisses Early Exit Rumors
Marcus Rashford’s loan spell at Barcelona has been the subject of speculation after reports in Spain suggested the club was considering cutting short the deal and sending him back to Manchester United. The forward joined the La Liga champions this summer after losing his place at Old Trafford but has yet to secure a regular starting role under Hansi Flick.

The 26-year-old has featured in three La Liga matches so far, with only one start against Levante, where he was substituted at half-time. Media outlet El Nacional reported that Barcelona executives described him as “shy, imprecise and lost,” fueling claims of an early termination of his loan. Such a decision was said to potentially cost the Catalan side around £4 million.
Renowned journalist Guillem Balague has now dismissed those reports, insisting that Barcelona retains confidence in Rashford’s ability to rediscover his best form. Writing on social media, Balague stated: “Absolutely rubbish that Barcelona is planning to end Marcus Rashford's loan deal early. Barca told his representative that they have a lot of confidence in Rashford’s potential and that they believe he will recover as a top player.” He added that he agreed with Gary Lineker’s stance on the forward’s treatment by sections of the media.
Rashford’s move to Barcelona came after Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim excluded him from the first-team group, placing him among those deemed surplus to requirements. Following unsuccessful pursuits of Nico Williams and Luis Díaz, Barcelona turned to Rashford, despite lingering doubts over the deal.
The England international still has nearly an entire season to establish himself at Camp Nou and prove he deserves a permanent move. His loan agreement includes a £30 million buy option, allowing the club to secure his services should he deliver consistent performances. For now, Rashford remains part of Flick’s plans and is expected to be available when Barcelona host Valencia in La Liga on September 14.
