'I Did What I Had to Do': João Félix Opens Up on Chelsea Exit and Al-Nassr Revival
For João Félix, the decision to leave Chelsea FC was not taken lightly—but it was one he believes had to be made. After joining the club permanently in 2024, the forward found it difficult to establish consistency, eventually sealing a move to Al-Nassr FC the following summer.

That change has proven transformative. In Saudi Arabia, Félix has flourished, delivering 15 goals and 12 assists in just 26 league outings since his €50 million transfer. His current performances represent a significant improvement compared to his output in the Premier League, where he scored 11 times in 40 appearances across loan and permanent spells.
While he was part of Chelsea’s Conference League success, his involvement was often limited, with frequent appearances away from the starting lineup. A temporary spell at AC Milan followed before his permanent exit from European football, ending a period marked by tactical uncertainty.
Félix has expressed appreciation for his time in London but explained that his desire for consistent minutes ultimately shaped his decision. At both Chelsea and Atlético Madrid, he was regularly used in roles that did not suit his style, including wide positions or isolated attacking duties.
Now, playing centrally—the position that brought him recognition at Benfica—he feels fully confident again. He highlighted that enjoying football and maintaining self-belief are his top priorities, both of which he has regained at Al-Nassr.
The influence of Jorge Jesus has been central to this revival. Félix credited the coach’s methods for improving his game, while also valuing the chance to share the dressing room with Cristiano Ronaldo, whose professionalism continues to set standards.
On the pitch, Al-Nassr are in a strong position. Leading the standings with 67 points from 26 matches, they sit just ahead of Al-Hilal FC as the season heads into a crucial stretch. Maintaining momentum through upcoming fixtures will be vital in securing the title.
Beyond club ambitions, Félix is also targeting international recognition, hoping his form will earn him selection in Portugal national team’s World Cup squad.
